Our New Leaders
Majors Gary & Lorraine Chaundy
Majors Gary and Lorraine Chaundy were commissioned as Salvation Army Officers in May 2003. They’ve been the Corps Officers (Ministers) at Wokingham (in Berkshire), Bedford, Eston (near Middlesbrough) and Sherburn Hill (in Durham). Their core values are openness and authenticity and their passion is to see the local Church grow and people to continue to grow in their discipleship and understanding of God’s mission. They are committed to making Church relevant, interesting and fun to all people without barriers.
Before they were in full time ministry Gary worked for Help the Aged's (now Age UK) national shop operation and Lorraine was a Graphic Designer & College Lecturer. Gary grew up in Enfield, North London, and Lorraine is a true Geordie, having been born in Newcastle General Hospital and grew up in Whitely Bay.
Gary loves cycling, coffee, reading and silence! Lorraine is in to anything creative, sewing, and walking the dog (a Lurcher called Angel). The Chaundy family is completed by Molly and Benjamin, who enrich Mum and Dad’s life and ministry considerably. Molly is 13 and loves singing, dancing, art, reading and writing stories. Benjamin is 12 and enjoys rollercoasters, science and engineering, making things with wood and playing on his Xbox.
- Gary: “Now to him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to his power that is at work within us, to him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations, for ever and ever! Amen.” (Ephesians 3:20-21)
- Lorraine: “Not that I have already obtained all this, or have already arrived at my goal, but I press on to take hold of that for which Christ Jesus took hold of me. Brothers and sisters, I do not consider myself yet to have taken hold of it. But one thing I do: Forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead, I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus.” Philippians 3:12-14
- Molly: “Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid or terrified because of them, for the Lord your God goes with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you.” (Deuteronomy 31:6)
- Benjamin: Loves all of Psalm 139 because it tells him that God wants him to just be himself.
