The Good Neighbours Scheme

What is Good Neighbours?

The Good Neighbours Scheme is managed by the Salvation Army and responds to the needs of the most vulnerable by meeting people at their point of need. Our approach is holistic, engaging with peole's physical, emotional and spiritual needs.

Good Neighbours runs a number of projects that seek to support older people to live life in all its fullness.

We aim to:

promote independent living

Tackle isolation

Promote a healthier lifestyle

Help to build confidence

Have a voice in things that affect you

Meet the needs of the most vulnerable

 

We Offer:Good Neighbours

Visiting Befriending. This service is for people who have difficulty going out into the community and would welcome home visits to chat, share news.

Telephone Befriending 'Caring Calls'. This service is for those who would welcome a friendly chat on the telephone.

'Young at Heart' Day Opportunities. This runs twice a week from 9.30am to 3pm. We offer a friendly and safe place to make friends and enjoy a full and varied programme of activities.

Luncheon Club. Offers a three course nutritious meal.

Community Support Team. We offer one to one support that is led by your needs. This may include: general advice for independent living, services and activities where you live. General advice on housing and benefits issues.

Gardening Maintenance. We offer low level gardening maintenance for older people who can no longer manage their gardens and have no other support to do it themselves.

VOLUNTEERING OPPORTUNITIES

 

Volunteering is a good way to get involved in your local community - to use your skills, build your confidence and gain valuable work experience.

We offer many different opportunities including:

Visiting or regulalry telephoning someone who is isolated.

Help with shopping

Help with attending health appointments

Support older people to complete forms and paperwork

Light gardening maintenance

Helping in our 'Young at Heart' day opportunities

help with fundraising events

Take part in the co-production of service design

All volunteers with Good Neighbours can expect:

Full support and training

general administrative support

Full reimbursement of out of pocket expenses
